Make a Ten To Add

The grade 1 worksheets on this page will help the students practice & sharpen the concepts for Advanced Addition – Make a Ten To Add.‘ ‘Make a Ten’ is a strategy that students can use to add two numbers when the sum of the two numbers is greater than ten. To use this strategy, the students decompose one of the addends to make a ten by combining with the other addend. For example, to add 8+5, 5 is decomposed into 3 and 2. 2 is combined with 8 to make 10 and then 3 added to give 13 as the result for 8+5. The worksheets will help the students practice decomposition of the addends to make a ten. The worksheets use different variations to reinforce student’s understanding of the concept, while keeping them engaged and challenged.
